Wyra : The government has appointed Zakir Hussain, the Superintendent of the Khammam Municipal Corporation, as the first Municipal Commissioner of the Wyra municipality along with Kasthala Sathyanarayana as a Special Officer. Zakir Hussain rendered his services as Khammam Municipal Commissioner in the past.

According to the sources, the government first announced the Tahesildar Ravi Kumar of Wyra mandal as Municipal Commissioner and had also provided trained him for some days. But due to some political pressures the government changed the name and announced Zakir Hussain as the Municipal Commissioner of Wyra municipality.

Addressing the media persons after taking charge as Wyra Municipal Commissioner, Zakir Hussain said he would strive hard for solving various issues such as drinking water, sanitation and electricity along with construction works of interlinking roads connecting various villages under Wyra municipality.

He also said that necessary steps would also be taken for construction of side drains, parks, central lighting, footpaths and gardens. “With the formation of Wyra as municipality, there would be enormous development in all villages which are covered under Wyra municipality along with enhancement of land prices in and around surrounding villages,” he added.

Talking about the extra taxes to be paid by the people after upgradation of Wyra gram panchayat into Municipality, Zakir Hussain said that there is no need to worry about it as the government had given provision to pay the same tax for three years as they were paying under major gram panchayat.

It is to be noted here that the government had issued the G.O-MS No.69  declaring major gram panchayats into municipalities for the all round development of the villages under municipalities. Therefore,  Wyra which was a major gram panchayat until July 31 was upgraded into a municipality with several other villages of Wyra mandal on August 2.
