Hyderabad: Announcing the allotment of 2.5 acre land and Rs 5 crore money for the construction of Padmashali Bhavan in the city, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday asserted the need to adopt a multi-pronged strategy for the overall development of Padmashali community, who are living on weaving profession.

Holding a meeting with the representatives of the particular community, the Chief Minister said the government has already been providing necessary encouragement and incentive to those who continue to work in the weaving profession, besides showing alternate employment opportunities to those who left the profession. Chandrashekar Rao suggested the community to create Padmashali welfare fund for which as a first donation the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will donate Rs 50 lakh.

The government is also ready to allocate sufficient funds for their welfare, he added. The Chief Minister said that sarees and other clothes distributed during Bathukamma, Ramzan and Christmas festivals were procured from the handloom and power loom weavers.   Power looms are modernised with 100 per cent subsidy and wool and chemicals are provided on 50 per cent subsidy.

He asked the Padmashali Association to collect data on how many are still dependent on the profession and the measures required to save them from the problems being faced.
