Skewed study, bemoans GHMC as Hyderabad ranks 27
Hyderabad: Ill at ease following the announcement of rankings to the cities by the Centre in regard to the 'Ease of Living Index', the honchos of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) find the study done on cities a little skewed.
That Hyderabad should get 27th place and Vijayawada, which is one tenth of Hyderabad should get ninth position, looks a little odd, the municipal officials said. When contacted, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said:
“Hyderabad stood first in Swachh Survekshan mission when compared to other neighbouring cities. Hyderabad cannot be compared with Vijayawada as they are of two different sizes. Vijayawada is only one tenth of Hyderabad both in terms of population and area,” he said.
Of the 4,500 cities in the country, only 111 were selected for the best living standards indexing. The conditions in these cities were studied under various parameters before finalising the ranks, official sources said.
It may be mentioned here that the Tirupati and Vijayawada Municipal Corporations have ranked 4th and 9th in the most livable places on the government's inaugural 'Ease of Living Index'.
