Congress would be ready to take on TRS before polls: Rahul

Hyderabad: All is not well with the Congress in Telangana. This was admitted by AICC chief Rahul Gandhi that the party was not in fine fettle but was sure that by the time elections arrive, the factions would sink their differences and they would work as one force.

Replying to a question by The Hans India during an interaction with Editors of various media houses, Rahul agreed that the party could not corner the government effectively all these years but now with the leaders being fully geared up to meet the challenge, it would surely vanquish the TRS. As far as Andhra Pradesh is concerned, Rahul said the Congress would make smart gains though it may not be able to come to power.

On sailing with friends in Telangana, he said the Congress was open for alliances with like-minded parties in Telangana to defeat the TRS. But the issue of which party should the Congress consider for alliance would be left to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), he said.

He took a strong exception to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's comment that his family rule was much better than Gandhi's. "Last time when a member from Gandhi family became the Prime Minister was between 1984-89," he said and denied that Sonia Gandhi had the remote control in her hands and that the Prime Ministers had to act under her guidance.

"Only in respect of political issues, the then AICC president used to give direction to the party but she never interfered in running of the government. But in Telangana, KCR's entire family was in government and it was virtually they who are running everything making all others irrelevant. It is KCR who should check the facts and not me," he quipped.
