KGBV boxers make Palamuru proud
Mahbubnagar: The girl students of Kasturiba Ghandi Balikala Vidyalaya Sports Academy of Nawabpet in Mahabubnagar district bagged 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals in the State-level Sub-Junior Boxing Championships held at Lal Bhadurshastri Stadium earlier on Monday.
Congratulating the winners, district Collector Ronald Rose, District Youth and Sports Officer Satya Vani and District Education Officer Somireddy expressed happiness that the KGBV girls have made Mahabubnagar proud by bagging maximum medals during the boxing championships.
“This is for the first time that our KGBV academy girls have participated at a State-level boxing championship. And during their maiden attempt itself they have come out with flying colours making proud to everyone in the district and they have brought great name to the district at the state level,” said TVL Satyavaani, DYSO Mahabubnagar.
Those who excelled in the boxing championships with Gold medals include K. Laxmi for boxing under 32-34 weight category, Mounika with Gold under 38-40 Kg category, M. Sony in 40-42 kg category and G. Sandhya under 498-50 kg category. R. Radhika bagged the lone Silver medal, while M. Shivamma, B. Manjula and M. Jyothi bagged Bronze medals at the boxing championships.
In fact it was the district collector Ronald Rose’s brain child to establish KGBV academies to encourage sports and athletics among the girls’ students. As part of this, the district administration has established 5 KGBV academies and it has proven fruitful with positive results pouring in.
