16 gates of Kadem dam opened; Heavy inflow into reservoir
Nirmal: As many as 15 flood gates of the Kadem dam in Nirmal district were lifted on Thursday to release 2.54 lakh cusecs of water into the Godavari, following heavy inflows.
Due to continuous rains from Wednesday to Thursday evening, the reservoir is getting water. About 3,327 cusecs of water reached the reservoir on Wednesday night while the inflow increased heavily after the midnight. On Thursday morning, the inflow started at 90,000 cusecs and still increasing.
Water level is being maintained at 699.150 ft against a full reservoir level of 700 ft. As the water inflow is steadily increasing from 90,000 cusecs to 2.76 cusecs, the officials have opened 16 out of the total 18 flood gates. The remaining two are jammed due to technical snags.
The project officials are trying to open those two gates also. Khanapur MLA Ajmeera Rekha Naik came to know the inflow and visited the project on Thursday. She informed about the reservoir water level, inflow and outflow and other details to Minister Harish Rao and alerted him about the problems due to the two gates that are not getting opened.
Nirmal DSP Manohar Reddy also rushed to the project site and reviewed the situation. He ordered the police officials to suggest the tourists to take precautions. Later he checked the water flowing into River Godavari.
