Godavari in spate: Flood alert issued
Bhupalpally: With the catchment areas receiving substantial rain, Godavari River is in spate forcing the authorities to issue first danger warning. With the water level in Godavari reaching 8.50 meters at Ramannagudem Pushkar Ghat under Eturnagaram in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district on Thursday evening, the district administration has issued the first warning.
It may be noted here that water level for the second warning is 9.90 meters and 11 meters for the third and final warning. Based on the inputs from upper reaches, it’s learnt that by Friday morning the inflow in the river is likely to touch second warning level. District Collector D Amay Kumar inspected Akinapally Mallaram village where crops were inundated due to overflowing of river.
He directed the officials to monitor the situation round the clock in low-lying villages - Kodumuru, T Kothagudem, Akinepally Mallaram and Brahmanapally etc. that are prone to inundation when the water level reaches 11 meters.
Elsewhere in the district, road link was cut off to several villages Dharmaraopet, Sitarampur, Veluturlapalli and other villages under Ganapuram mandal due to overflowing of Moranchavagu stream.
In Venkatapuram mandal, Palem vagu is receiving copious inflows, following which authorities released 4,500 cusecs downstream. In view of visitors’ safety, forest officials barred the entry to Bogatha waterfalls due to heavy inflows.
