Rains wreak havoc in Suryapet

Suryapet: Normal life was disturbed in Suryapet district due to incessant rains for the last couple of days. The low-lying colonies in Kodad town were flooded with rainwater and water entered the houses in Madvararam and Mukundapuram villages of Munagala mandals. Officials took up rescue operations in the affected areas.

Ponds and water bodies in Chintalapalem, Mellacheruvu, Palakeedu, Garidepally, Mattampally, Neredcherla and Huzurnagar mandals in Huzurnagar Assembly segment were brimming and crops were submerged in rainwater in many parts of the district.

Gampala Mallamma (80) of Nemmikal village of Athmakur ( S) mandal in the district was killed due to collapse of wall of  a house due to last night’s downpour.

Also, normal life was disturbed in Suryapet town with incessant rains many colonies including SV Engineering College in the town was inundated with rainwater. People are facing problem in even crossing the road bridges in many parts of the district as they are inundated with rainwater.

As per the official information, in Suryapet district received total rainfall 2,02.4 mm in past 24 hours , district average rainfall was 112.4 mm and highest rainfall was recorded as 193 mm in Munagala mandals followed by 156.2 mm in Kodad and 152.2 mm in Nadigudem mandal, whereas least rainfall was recorded as 65.4 mm in Tirumalagiri mandal in the district. Also, moderate to heavy rains were witnessed in Nalgonda and Yadadri- Bhongir districts.
