Female police volunteers to protect village women
Nalgonda: Nalgonda district has been selected for appointment of women police volunteers to all gram panchayaths and wards in municipalities in the district under central Home Affairs pilot project to provide more security to rural women in all aspects.
As per the project, women police volunteers will find out the issues of girls and women of a particular village and protect them by bringing their problems to the notice of superiors.
Government has identified that majority of victim women are unable to approach the police due to lack of awareness on laws and also in the name of prestige. In view of this on direction of department of ICDS, the Ministry of Home Affairs planned to appoint the women police volunteer in each gram panchayath and wards in municipalities in the district.
As a part of duties, women police volunteers will be available to women of respective local body round the clock and provide shelter whenever necessary and bring the women issues including eve teasing, dowry harasement, different forms of harassment, domestic violence and child marriage to the respective police station for necessary action, District SP AV informed.
The women who have attained 21 years and completed intermediate and equivalent education and without any cases and should not have any affiliation to any political party are eligible to apply for women police volunteers.
Interested candidates can apply to the post by getting application forms from the nearest police station or gram panchayaths or tahsildhar office to be issued from September 1 and final date for the submission of the application forms is September 30. After scrutiny of applications, under the supervision of the screening committee, women police volunteers would be selected transparently and appointment letters would handed over to the selected candidates.
Selected women police volunteers would get Rs 500 for expenses per month and top three volunteers would get Rs 10,000, Rs 5000, Rs 3000 cash prizes and appreciation certificates in any of the departmental annual celebrations, he added.
