Flood situation turns grim in district

Kothagudem: Minister of Roads and Building Tummala Nageswara Rao has ordered officers to set up more relief camps for the flood victims as flood situation turned grim in the district on Tuesday. The Minister also spoke to the District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu and took details of flood situation.

After heavy rains in the upper catchment areas, several rivulets and streams are flooded and water reservoirs and projects in the district are overflowing.  The Irrigation authorities sounded the second warning level at 48 feet in Bhadrachalam at 3.15 pm on Tuesday.  

District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu issued order to all officers to sound alert in all mandals.  He also asked them to arrange relief camps and shift the flood victims to the safer places.  Every officer should maintain the buffer stocks in all mandals, he ordered.

As many as 30 families have taken shelter in the relief camp set up in the temple town. The officers visited the low-lying area of the Ashok Nagar Colony,  Ayyappa Colony on Tuesday. The flood water also reached the Nithya Annadhana Satram.

The authorities have set up a flood control room at the Sub-Collector office and advised the residents to call on the toll free number 087 43-232444 in Bhadrachalam 

The Revenue villages of the Dummagudem, Burgumphad, Aswapuram , Dhamma Pet Mulkalpally, Palvanch villages  500 acres of the crop of paddy, cotton and are submerged under flood water.

Due to floods, many villages are cut off from the rest of the world as the roads linking them to the mandal headquarters are destroyed. The Dummagudem, Charla, Venkata puram, Wazeedu of Kothagudem district and mandals  Polavarams Kunavaram and V.R Puram which are with East Godavari district are also cut off from the rest of the world.  

The road communication with the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh and Odisha is also affected. The Central Water Commission officials said the water level in Godavari river rose because of the inflows from Pranahita, Taliperu, and Indravati water projects. 

The Godavari is not calm here in from the last twenty days.  It was marked up and down here.  The people are afraid the situation the moments of the river Godavari.   In the month of the July it was also marked the  highest  37 feet.  After that in August it was continuing rising here.  It was also reached the first warning   level on 17th of  this month. 

It was increasing slowly and marked second warning level 48 feet at on Tuesday.  The officers are alerted the flood moment and arranged the rehabilitation centers ainthe better places in the all Mandals.
