Respite from rain in Telangana

Hyderabad: There is a temporary respite on Tuesday from the heavy rain that lashed the entire Telangana state for the last three days despite the rain forecast still holding good for another day. However, Tuesday turned out to be a pleasant day with intermittent sun shine. According to official figures, three persons died in the rain-related incidents and 1,055 houses damaged in the rain-hit districts. The reports said that light to moderate rains was reported in old Adilabad, Khammam and parts of Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts.

Two people died in Suryapet and one in Mancherial district. In Adilabad district alone, 665 houses were damaged followed by Khammam (115) , Warangal rural (71), Siddipet (46), Jagtial (44), Kamareddy (32), Karimnagar (20), Suryapet (17), Mancherial (13), Mahbubabad (12) and 10 houses were damaged in Bhadradri- Kothagudem district. Since the Godavari river is in spate, National Disaster Response Force personnel were deployed across adjoining district and sounded second warning at low-lying areas around Bhadrachalam. 

Officials said that agriculture department has taken up the enumeration of crops in the flood-affected districts. Preliminary estimations indicate crops in more than 2 lakh acres are damaged. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that moderate rain will occur in Adilabad and Kumuram Bheem Asifabad districts and light rain in other districts in the next 24 hours. 

The Irrigation, Roads and Buildings and Panchayat Raj departments swung into action to repair the breached bridges, water bodies and damaged roads in the remote habitations. Efforts were also on to divert flood water from rivulets to the tanks and water bodies and store them to meet irrigation and drinking water needs in the coming days.
