Rescue op fails, watchman dead

Update: 2018-08-24 05:30 IST

Kazipet: The rescue operation launched by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) went in vain as they found the watchman Meda Bikshapathy, who stuck under the debris of a partially collapsed building, dead. The rescue team, which began dismantling of the structure on Wednesday afternoon, finally found the watchman’s body in the wee hours of Thursday.

It may be mentioned here that Bikshapathy was trapped under the G+3 under-construction building that caved in partially at Bhavani Nagar late on Tuesday night.

After they found that there was no way to sneak into the lower portion of the building where watchman was sleeping at the time of collapse, the rescue staff started dismantling the building.

It’s learnt that reason for the collapse of the building was improper planning. It’s also learnt that the builder was given permission for the construction of two floors and the other floors were constructed illegally. The pillars were designed to withstand only two floors.

Adding more to it was an agricultural well in the building site and it was filled before the commencement of the construction. The water-logging in the nearby open plots due to recent incessant rains compounded the problem.
