Big hike in stipend for junior doctors on cards
Hyderabad: Junior doctors can heave a sigh of relief. The Telangana government is understood to have decided to hike stipend given to doctors pursuing broad-specialty, super-specialty PG courses as well as house surgeons by 55 per cent, as requested by junior doctors.
For post-graduates doing MD courses (broad-specialty) the revised stipend is likely to be in the range of Rs 44,075 to Rs 48,973, with the lowest for the first year student and highest for third-year student.
Those pursuing DM (super-specialty) would get monthly stipend in the range of Rs 48,973 to Rs 53,859. For house surgeons, the revised stipend is likely to be Rs 19, 589.
It may be mentioned here that at present, junior doctors doing MD courses are getting stipend in the range of Rs 27,000 to 30,000 per month while those pursuing DM are in Rs 30,000 to 33,000 bracket. House surgeons are given Rs 12,000 per month.
The file relating to stipend hike was sent to Chief Minister and sources said it was cleared. A related G O is expected in a day or two.
It may be mentioned here that junior doctors decided to boycott elective duties demanding hike of stipend from August 16, but after an appeal from DME (Director of Medical Education), they decided to put off their strike by 15 days.
