Uttam seeks funding source for TRS meet

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao explain the sources of funding for the public meeting TRS is conducting on September 2.

"Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would be spending more than Rs 300 crore on the public meeting. The Chief Minister must explain the sources from where the TRS was mobilising funds," he demanded. Uttam alleged that the entire money was ill-gotten wealth which TRS Chief and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s family allegedly accumulated during the last four years through commission from contractors on different projects. "Whatever money is being spent now by the TRS is actually public money which had been stolen from the exchequer through dubious means," the TPCC Chief stated in a press release.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also urged the Income Tax Department and other authorities to track the spending as well as trace the origin of those funds. "This is pure black money which is being spent by the TRS. The IT authorities should prepare a detailed log of money being spent by the TRS for the venue, transportation, food and other expenses. The actual figure of spending would be mind-boggling," he added.

He also accused the Chief Minister of misusing the official machinery for his party's public meeting. “All the RTC buses have been blocked for the day which would cause huge inconvenience to the common people. Even Telangana State Public Service Commission exams are being postponed in view of the meeting. TRS did nothing for the people during the last four years and before making a final exit from power, it is causing huge inconvenience to the people," he said.

"More than 4,000 farmers committed suicide during the last four years as they got no help from the State government. Jobless youth faced only disappointment. Women got no importance in the TRS regime and the first government of Telangana State would be remembered forever for not having a woman Minister,” he said. While betrayers of Telangana were being rewarded with top posts, those who struggled for Telangana, especially students, were subjected to harassment and lathi-charge. Not even 400 out of 1,200 families of Telangana martyrs got the promised benefits, he added.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said it would be appropriate if the TRS public meeting is named "Praja Avedana Sabha" instead of 'Pragathi Nivedika Sabha'. K Chandrashekar Rao turned revenue surplus Telangana into a debt-ridden State. He said Chandrashekar Rao was not expected to speak anything other than lies in the proposed public meeting. He announced that the Congress party would expose the failures of the TRS government point-by-point.
