Kanti Velugu yet to get streamlined in Palamuru

Mahabubnagar: The Kanti Velugu programme which was launched by the State government has not yet been properly streamlined in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district.

Though the Kanti Velugu scheme was launched with much fanfare on 15th August, the way the scheme has been implemented is not up to the mark, as the healthcare authorities are yet to get themselves streamlined with the entire cycle of the eye treatment programme in the district.

The main thing the district authorities are lacking is proper planning, due to which the healthcare staff as well as the patients are facing various problems. Not just that there is a scarcity of medicines in most of the screening and testing centres and moreover the authorities are not having clear information where to send the identified patients for the next level eye treatment.

For instance in Nagarkurnool and Jogulamba Gadwal districts, the healthcare authorities have not yet started providing full scale treatment facilities to conduct eye surgeries to the patients identified with advanced stage eye diseases. Because of this situation the people are in confusion as they are not aware where to approach for the next level of treatment under the Kanti Velugu scheme.

In fact, the state government has set a target of screening 250-300 people in the villages per day and by next 6 months; the authorities have set a target of covering all the people in the district. However, the ground situation in the villages is totally different. Except for the first one week, where a large number of people thronged the eye testing centres, however in the later days the health authorities are struggling to mobilise the people to come to the screening centres.
