Kukatpally: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has expedited the construction works of the Foot over bridges across the city and decided to put four more FOBs into use by September end. The GHMC started construction of FOBs at various locations considering the frequent accidents occurring due to pedestrian-vehicle interactions. The project also prioritised development of modern foot over bridges with elevators/escalators not only to enable the aged or persons with disabilities but also to encourage the common public to use FOBs instead of braving the onward traffic to save time.

The GHMC is ready to open FOBs at Kukatpally Bus stop, PNR Mall, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and National Police Academy in this month. The FOB work at Mahavir Hospital will be completed and is scheduled to be completed by September end. The FOB at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital is yet to be started as land acquisition of private property is in process and also negotiation is going on with Mosque Committee for assessing and payment of compensation for mosque property.

Further, FOBs have been taken up under PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode by M/s Prakash Arts at two locations of which the FOB at Muffakhamjah College is completed. For another FOB, suitable location is being explored to propose change of site in view of SRDP work at Shilparamam. An additional nine locations have been taken up for development of FOBs under PPP mode by two agencies M/s GMR Ads and M/s Adways of which the FOB at Temple Bus stop, Kukatpally is completed. At seven locations, the construction of FOBs is at various stages of progress and change of site is proposed at one location.
