Tharur tops in MGNREGS implementation
Tharur: The national award for Vikarabad district in successfully implementing the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has been a moral booster for the official machinery as well as the beneficiaries. The scheme was implemented with a spirit across the district. If Vikarabad stood first at the national level, Tharur mandal tops in the district.
The mandal has a total of 36 panchayats with 16 associated villages. The mandal has population of 50,000. In the past many rural workers migrated in search of employment as there were no industries. Since last few years, thanks to the scheme, the people are getting employed locally. There are 11,072 job cards in the mandal under the scheme. Each society has 530 Shrama Shakthi groups, each group constituting 40 members. So far, 1029 families have completed 100 days of employment.
In the last financial year, a total of 5,17,000 working days were created, towards which Rs. 10.97 crore had been spent. Thanks to the scheme, anyone who seeks employment is benefitted and barren land has been transformed into fertile land.
As many as 820 rain harvesting pits have been built in the district so far by Shrama Shakthi groups. Around 1,200 percolation pits have been built in the house premises. As many as 500 Nadep pits were built under the scheme by the farmers. Organic waste materials are being effectively utilized for the preparation of organic fertilizers. Under the scheme, 50 animal sheds and 17 sheep farms have been built in the mandal.
Farmers have planted teak trees under Haritha Haram scheme, a Telangana state government scheme promoting tree plantation. Utilizing MGNREGS, some farmers of the mandal have also developed fruit farms. Promising to plant trees and preserve them for at least three years under the scheme, many farmers have contributed for environment conservation.
Tharur has become a model to emulate in the implementation of the scheme. If other mandals inspire and compete with one another, the purpose of the scheme will be served and number of people will also get benefitted.
