Once a dumping place, now a feast to eyes
Hyderabad: Once an unofficial garbage dump site, the space below the Malakpet flyover has turned into a most creative piece of artist’s imagination. With the recent installation of sculptures like tea kettle and water cascade, has turned the site into a pleasant change and feast to the eyes of commuters, who sometime stop their vehicles to witness the transformation.
According to officials, the Malakpet flyover, which witnesses’ heavy traffic has got a new look with installation of sculptures of a water cascade and vertical garden. “The designer sculptures of water cascade and tea kettle fountain under the flyover come as a pleasant change to the commuters and locals, from the earlier, unclaimed foul emanating filthy garbage”, said Suboor , Urban Biodiversity Manager, Charminar Zone.
He said that GHMC came up with the theme ‘Tea kettle with cups’ to depict Hyderabad culture. The Rs 3.77 lakh theme-based fountain and garden sits on 800 sq ft space under the flyover. The kettle is 18 feet in height and cups of five feet. “While the median of the flyover is being decorated with the shade of plant saplings and bubble stones, the pillars were decorated with vertical gardens. The flyover now got landscaping, fencing, a fresh coat of paint, exclusive pathway for walkers and colourful illumination”, he added.
Waseem a shop owner near flyover said, “As there are many shops allotted near the flyover, the vacant space was being used to dump the waste after their work was completed and this area was used as a garbage centre even though it was near to the signal” Kabir, a resident said, “There is a smooth flow of traffic as the garbage dumping in not overflowing and people coming in carts to dump the garbage are not seen.”
