TDP, Congress tie-up in the offing
Hyderabad/ Amaravati: Alliance between Telugu Desam Party and the Congress for the Assembly elections in Telangana is more than likely. TDP chief and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who is arriving in Hyderabad on Saturday, is expected to discuss the issue first with his Telangana state leaders before making his next move.
According to sources, the TDP is not averse to joining hands with the Congress in facing the TRS in Telangana which is going to polls sooner than later. TDP general secretary and IT Minister N Lokesh dropped subtle hints to this effect on Friday that any decision on alliance with like-minded parties or the Congress in Telangana would be decided by the Telangana state leaders.
According to sources in the Congress, Telangana president N Uttam Kumar Reddy might meet Chandrababu Naidu and discuss the need for alliance in Telangana. He is expected to explain to him the need for a united opposition to take the TRS on.
Both of them might discuss the way the BJP was acting in AP and Telangana. The TDP has been accusing BJP of using YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as its front in AP and the Congress has been alleging that the TRS president and caretaker chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao is working hand-in-glove with the saffron party.
The TDP is also expected to go over identifying parties which have no problem in working with the Congress like the TJS and the CPI so that all of them could form into a front to take the TRS by its horns in the elections. “The TDP will benefit more from alliance with the Congress in Telangana,” said one TDP leader in Amaravati.
