Hyderabad: Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Panjagutta resident doctors boycotted elective duties on Monday in protest against the government decision to appoint Dr RV Kumar as the new Dean. They also held a sit in dharna in the chamber of NIMS Director Dr Manohar.

“We have given representations two days ago demanding government to revoke the appointment order as the prestige of NIMS would be hit by the appointment of a tainted doctor facing ACB case as the new Dean. We would not relent until the decision is withdrawn," Dr G Srinivas, Resident Doctors Association, NIMS said.

A delegation from resident doctors and faculty doctors met Incharge Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Sunil Sharma in the afternoon on this issue. He was briefed about corruption allegations against the new Dean and harassment complaints by women PG medicos in the past.

Resident doctors said they would continue with their decision to boycott elective duties even on Tuesday. Meanwhile, patients visiting NIMS hospital for treatment faced untold difficulties due to the doctors stir.
