Antique thief relishes food from golden tiffin box
Hyderabad: The city police on Tuesday said they had busted the sensational burglary at Nizam Museum case and apprehended two offenders. The arrested have been accused of stealing antique golden items on September 2 from the Nizam Museum, which came to light on September 3.
The arrests were made jointly by the South Zone Task Force and the city police. The arrested were identified as Mohammed Ghouse Pasha alias Khooni Pasha (23), a centering worker belonging to Chinthalmet, Rajendranagar and Mohammed Mubeen alias Mohammed Aziz (24), a welding worker belonging to Rajendranagar.
Addressing the media, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the sensational burglary case was solved within a short span of time and 100 per cent stolen property (three tier gold tiffin box studded with precious diamonds and rubies weighing about 1950 grams, gold cup and saucer with precious stones weighing about 172 grams and a golden tea spoon weighing about 14 grams) was recovered from the accused.
After the theft, according to their plan the accused moved in and around the Nizam Museum areas on bike and tried to divert the police attention. Later, they reached Zaheerabad. At Zaheerabad their motorcycle broke down which was abandoned at the bus stand and the accused left for Mumbai through public transport system.
At Mumbai, they tried for possible buyers in the domestic market by carrying the golden spoon with them. Mubeen, through his international relations, tried to find possible buyers abroad but in vain. Finally, they returned to Hyderabad on September 10 after all their attempts to dispose of the stolen property got exhausted. On a tip off, the South Zone Task Force and the Mirchowk police apprehended both the accused in the hillocks nearby Himayathsagar and recovered the entire stolen property.
Interestingly, during interrogation, the accused revealed that one of them had eaten food from the golden tiffin box. By posing it as a joke in the media conference, the Commissioner doubted that not even one of the richest persons in the world, the Nizam might not have done that.
