Boys bunk school to collect Ganesh Chanda in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Like every year, many boys continue to collect chanda in the name of Ganesh Chaturthi donations. 

“I caught my son twice, with a money bank collected as Ganesh Chanda. 

There are group of boys who bunk the school and wander around places to collect Ganesh Chanda,” said a parent, Suryappa from Devarakonda Basti. 

Young boys mark their own territory for collecting donations. They usually hunt for collections near, shopping malls and supermarkets.

“Some of them are fake though, they collect money in the name of donations and spend it on entertaining themselves,” said Rajesh Kumar, a 14-year-old who was collecting donations by showcasing printed slips near D-mart, Shaikpet. 

A pair of young boys continue collecting donations at Lamakaan, “They would come with a money bank, holding the sticker of Ganesha asking for donations, after receiving it they would rush to candy store,” said Anthony, a security personnel at Lamakaan. 

A school teacher from Government High School at Devarakonda Basti, said “They start from home in school uniforms and rush to different places to collect donations. Most of the boys bunk school, although some of them do this after school.”
