Hyderabad: The Hans India in association with Olive Sweets distributed eco-friendly clay Ganesh Idols to GATI Govt High School students at Road No 7, Banjara Hills on Tuesday. “Our mission in distributing clay idols is to deter the use of harmful chemicals indulged Plaster of Paris (POP) and toxic paint which contaminates the soil and water,” said B Sai Reddy, circulation Manager of The Hans India.

To make any campaign successful and possible awareness is important and The Hans India has distributed clay idols in over 300 localities in the city, ‘like plastic we have to eradicate the use of POP in Ganesh Idol making, added Sai Reddy. “Clay is recyclable, it comes from the water bed, and it goes back to the water bed, while POP destroys aquatic life,” said primary school head master M Sudhakar, while addressing the students.

Janardhan, Maths teacher from GATI Govt High School said “There are over 8 lakh households in Hyderabad alone, imagine the quantity of POP being used to make idols. All this POP is being immersed into rivers and lakes polluting them. If this continues for a few years we may no longer have any lakes. The clay idol initiative by The Hans India is helping us to sustain environment.”  Over a hundred clay idols were distributed to students and staff of GATI Govt High School.
