Thrust on innovation, imbibing work culture: Javadekar

Warangal: Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that a new trend of ‘competition for quality’ is developing in the country. Javadekar, who inaugurated four new academic blocks at the National Institute of Technology here on Tuesday, said that imbibing 'work culture' in the country is what Narendra Modi is striving for.

Impressed by the fact that the buildings at the NIT were built at a cost much lesser than the estimated cost, he appreciated the NIT management’s efforts in developing infrastructural facilities on the campus.

Stating that NIT Warangal as one of the best educational institutions that he had ever come across, he told the students to make the most out of the facilities available to them. He said: “Hum fit, tabhi India fit!”, stressing the importance of fitness.

The introduction of NIRF rankings had inculcated a positive and healthy competition for quality amongst every institute in the country. “NIT Warangal tops everywhere because of a dedicated team of teachers and students who represent the diversity of the country, and learning in this atmosphere provides the best experience possible,” he said.

Javadekar advocated Prime Minister Modi’s policy that inculcates the culture of innovation which is a development from our line of progress since the last 30 years. Prosperity and sustainability are linked with innovation, and we should strive to be owners instead of contributors.

"We are part of innovation but not the owners of innovations," Javadekar said, referring to the Indians' hand in every research and development such as Windows, twitter, Facebook, besides a host of gadgets that are flooding the market and embraced by people.

We need to convert brain drain to brain gain, he said, referring to the thrust given to the changing landscape of education by the Centre.
He said the Smart India Hackathon was one such initiative which saw a substantial rise in enthusiasm from 40,000 students to one lakh within a span of one year. The industry-academy interactions are very important for the development of our country, and its places like NIT Warangal which provide platforms for such a growth.

Reaching the completion of his speech, he mentioned the brain drain from the country, and to counter this, a scholarship programme - Prime Minister Research Fellowship, has been introduced, which is proving to be a game-changer for transforming the landscape of education in India.

On the occasion, Javadekar presented certificate of appreciation to those who performed best in the Swacch Bharath Summer Internship.
