Students rally for protection of environment
Mahbubnagar: Stressing the need to save the environment, the students of Jayaprakash Narayan Engineering College (JPNCE) conducted a huge awareness rally from One Town police station to Roads and Buildings office in Mahbubnagar on Wednesday.
KS Ravi Kumar chairman of JPNCE flagged off the environment protection rally and said that people should avoid using Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris in this Ganesh festival and advocated use of clay Ganapathis.
“During this festival season, there are thousands of people using Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris. When it is dissolved in the water pollutes the water and causes environmental hazards and disturbs the aquatic life and there by creates imbalances in the environment.
Therefore, we are advocating the public to please avoid using the Ganesh idols made of plaster of paris and use only clay idols,” said SK Ravi Kumar.
Highlighting that protection of our surroundings and the natural enviorment is the responsibility of each and every individual, senior lawyer U. Manohar Reddy said, “There is a need to bring a change in the mind set of the people.
As every year we are dumping lakhs of Ganapati idols in the lakes and rivers our water bodies are polluted and because of which we are prone to various diseases.”
The lawyer praised the initiative taken up by the JPNCE management and its students for brining awareness about environment and sensitising them about the importance of protection of our natural water bodies during this festival season.
JPNCE secretary Venkat Rao, V.E. Chandrasekhar, Principal of Polytechnic College JPNCE and HODs of various departments along with students took part in the programme.
