Vikarabad JC urges political leaders to extend support for smooth conduct of polls
Vikarabad: Joint Collector of Vikarabad Aruna Kumari appealed district political leaders to extend their support for peaceful conduct of forthcoming elections. She held a meeting at her chamber with leaders of various recognised political parties to discuss conduct of elections, here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Collector said that there are 7,97,324 voters in the district. Anyone who is 18 years old as on January 01, 2018 can register as voter, she said. Voter registration can be done before the final publication of electoral roll on October 08. She informed leaders that new EVMs which are attached to Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines will be utilised in the elections.
Voters can now see a slip which mentions the party they voted for as soon as vote is cast and the slip will be visible only for seven seconds after which it drops into a box. She advised people to make necessary changes if any before the final publication of electoral rolls. Joint Collector also sought their support in providing basic amenities such as electricity and drinking water to polling stations. She appealed them not to create hurdles in maintenance of law and order.
