Warangal: The Australian Telangana State Association (ATSA) has come forward to extend its helping hand for the construction of an orphan home, said Dr Pallepadu Damodar, the secretary of ab NGO Sarvodaya Youth Organisation (SYO). He said that they had taken up the construction of orphan home for the destitute at Oglapur village under Atmakur mandal in Warangal Rural district.

Children, born to parents, who ended their lives for various reasons such as financial constraints and non-curable diseases, would be provided shelter and they would be given good education and a nice family atmosphere, he said. These children would be moulded as good citizens of the future, he asserted.

In several villages, the parents are sending their children as bonded labour due to their poor financial conditions and some of them are being sent as child labourers. Many such children could be seen as labourers at construction sites, industries and hotels for meagre wages. Such children would turn as anti-social elements because of their poor mental and physical growth, as they got addicted to vices, Dr Damodar lamented.

Keeping this in view, they have decided to construct a home for such destitutes with the help of ATSA. They have identified several such children in and around Warangal district and they would be given free food and their organisation had taken the responsibility to mould them as good citizens by giving them good education, he said.

Dr Damodar said that with the help of some philanthropists, the SYO had constructed a building and another shed to give shelter to 50 orphan children. Now with the help of ATSA, they are going to provide good infrastructure like flooring with tiles, wall finishing, white-washing for the building, digging of a borewell, electrical work, painting work etc, he said.

Under the SAAYA programme, the SYO had extended financial assistance to the tune of Rs 7.50 lakh. He recalled that they had provided financial help worth Rs 5.78 lakh to the families of 14 farmers, who resorted to suicides in Atmakur and Geesukonda mandals.
