Plans to make Collectorate a green building afoot

Hanamkonda: Plans are afoot to turn the upcoming Integrated Collectorate Complex as a green building and also to make Warangal as the best city in the sector of sanitation.

Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil on Wednesday told the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) officials to design the upcoming Integrated Collectorate Complex so that it get the Energy Conservation Building Code 3-Star certificate. He told them to provide building plans to ensure the rainwater harvesting pits.

ASCI Area Director Prof Srinivas Chary said that out of eight cities that were selected to secure sanitation standards at world-level, four were in India and Warangal is one among them.  

Of the two lakh families in Warangal city, only 77 per cent families have toilets that suit the world standards and the remaining families are using toilets, which did not maintain necessary standards. Prof Srinivas Chary further said that they have constructed 46 public toilets in Warangal city under public-private partnership to divert the people towards the use of toilets.

Stating that the government had announced Warangal as an ODF city way-back in December 2017, the ASCI team leader stressed the need to improve the maintenance of public toilets and reminded that very less number of women are making use of these public toilets.

Further he said that they have set up 5 e-toilets in Warangal city. Likewise, for the first time in the country, they have constructed she-toilets in Warangal. At the same time, 100 toilets were constructed in over 45 petrol stations and are made available for public. Change could be seen with such efforts of the government, he said and advised the people to get their septic tanks cleaned once in three years.

As part of the smart city programme, they are planning to implement waste management programme and construct sewerage treatment plant to treat over 150 kilometre sewerage and the government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the purpose. Over Rs 70 lakh has been kept aside for the maintenance and operation of the plant, he added.

The team had also explained to the collector about the different programmes for the improvement of sanitation and development of parks in Warangal city. ASCI project manager Dr Y Malini Reddy and project in-charge Kishore were among others present.
