Officials told to conduct special cleanliness drive
Khammam: District Collector RV Karnan on Friday ordered officials to conduct special cleanliness drive across the district to prevent spread of viral fever and seasonal diseases.
The Collector paid a sudden visit to Ramannapet area in the city and enquired the health condition of the people who are suffering from viral fever. He urged them to keep their surroundings clean and hygienic and avoid storing water for longer period of time in vessels and drums to keep check on the growth of mosquito population which spreads diseases like malaria, dengue and chickungunya.
After inspecting the colonies, the Collector ordered the concern officials to direct the sanitary staff for cleaning the surroundings regularly and releasing the Gambusia fish into the waters which feed on larva of mosquitoes and other insects.
The Collector also ordered to spray DDT or kerosene in drains in the affected areas and in places where water stagnation occurs regularly. He also asked sanitation staff to clean drainages regularly and do not allow sewage seeping on roads.
The Collector urged the people to drink the boiled and cooled water along with taking necessary measures like using mosquito nets. Mayor Dr G Papa Lal, Municipal Commissioner G Srinivas Rao, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Leelavathi Bai and urban Tahsildar Sri Latha and municipal staff were present on the occasion.
