Political parties focus on voter enrollment

Update: 2018-09-22 05:30 IST

Siddipet: Political leaders of the district seem to be concentrating more on enrolling new young voters these days. The intent obviously seems to bring more young voters into their kitty. Hence, elections authorities are taking extra care in enrolling new voters. Enrollment process has picked pace since last week in the district. In the past four days itself, more than 50,000 people enrolled as new voters in Siddipet district alone. However, 6,605 ineligible voters were deleted from the list. Since the last date for enrolling is 25th of this month, the number of new voters may increase much further in the coming days.

Political parties are striving hard to turn more and more young voters onto their side and areputting their efforts to convince unregistered voters to enroll before the last date. Caretaker CM KCR has instructed TRS party leaders to register at least 10,000 new voters for each constituency. Based on their boss’ instructions, the workers of TRS and TRSV are working hard in this direction.

On the other hand, having got alerted by TRS activism, other political parties too have begun concentrating on voter enrollment.  In KCR’s constituency Gajwel alone 16,656 new voters have been added to the list, followed by 10,155 in Harish Rao’s Siddipet constituency. Among other constituencies of the district, Husnabad enrolled 15,604, while Dubbaka added 8,109 new voters in the last four days.

Youth play a key role in swinging election results as they not only vote in large numbers but also influence other voters. Hence, the strength of any political party depends on which side youth are. Political parties are therefore putting more efforts to enroll new voters. They are collecting details of unregistered voters booth wise and are approaching them directly.

Meanwhile, the district administration, led by the district collector Krishna Bhaskar, is also conducting awareness campaigns to enroll more voters. Even NRIs are allowed to register as voters this time but none has registered so far. 2,313 voters have applied for changes in the entries while 391 applied for change in the polling stations. It is expected that more people will enroll before the last date.
