Khairatabad: The Khairatabad constituency is witnessing a stiff competition among the TRS aspirants Danam Nagender, Manne Govardhan Reddy, the party in charge, and local corporator Vijaya Reddy for the ticket. The three have taken up individual efforts to be in the forefront, confusing the party activists. Each is happily claiming among friends that he or she is likely to be the nominee.

Besides, there are other hopefuls like Prabhakar and corporator Vijayalakshmi, daughter of party secretary-general and MP K Keshav Rao. The decision of the TRS supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in not naming the candidate among the list of 105 he announced also seems to be adding to the confusion.

The pink party sources say that Vijaya Reddy had been strongly hopeful. As she was sure, PJR’s daughter is said to have made preparations. Associates say that she was in deep agony not finding her name in the list. Yet Vijaya is stated to be making solid efforts for the elusive ticket. Govardhan is said to be equally confident about his candidature. He claims that the party high command had already given him the assurance and hence named him as the constituency in charge. Manne claims that the party cadre is with him.

Hopes of followers of Danam, who recently quit Congress to jump onto the TRS bandwagon were dashed off as his name was not included in the list. They appear to be still in doubt whether the former local strongman would be favoured by the party. He is said to have switched over only after getting feelers that his candidature has been confirmed. However, TRS sources say that KCR is viewing him as the nominee from Goshamahal. There are also rumours that Danam may be fielded from Asifnagar. His friends maintain that the former City Congress chief had insisted on Khairatabad ticket only. He is said to have tried to meet KCR but could not.

The Chief Minister is stated to be holding discussions with the hopefuls. He had already visited Vijayalakshmi’s house, reportedly advising her not to press for the ticket as some other opportunity would be given. Hence, she is said to have dropped out of the race. Prabhakar is also stated to have given up. It remains to be seen who will emerge as winner among the three hopefuls in this interesting and keen tussle.
