JNTU-H seeks credibility certificate from faculty
Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) has asked several faculty members working in various private engineering colleges to submit the certificate of genuineness of their PhD degrees.
According to the university authorities, following reports of an internal check, they have found certain mismatches in the degree certificates uploaded for ratification by the faculty members.
Following these developments, the JNTU-H has sent letters to about 34 universities for the verification of degree certificates of PhD submitted by the candidates working as faculty members in the affiliated engineering colleges of the university.
Speaking to The Hans India, JNTU-H Registrar Dr N Yadaiah said that some universities have responded to provide their feedback on the inquiries of the JNTU-H to verify the genuineness of certificates.
However, where there is no response from universities, the candidates were asked to submit a genuineness certificate from the universities awarded the PhD degree to them, he added.
Besides, in one case where there was a mismatch, the university had referred the issue to the Kukatpally police for verification of the genuineness of the degree, following the allegations that the candidates had submitted fake degree certificates.
“It is a continuous affair as we check the genuineness of the degrees at the time of granting of affiliation to the college and also at the time when the faculty members upload their degree certificates on the university website,” Yadaiah said.
That apart, considering the directions of the Supreme Court, the university has also sought information from its affiliated colleges about the candidates working with degrees obtained from the JRN Rajasthan Vidyapeeth and Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, both from Rajasthan, Allahabad Agricultural Research Institute and Allahabad Agricultural Research Institute, and the Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, Salem from Tamil Nadu.
We have asked the colleges to submit the data by September 27 and the university has been taking every necessary measure to weed out any such fake degree holders working as a faculty member in the colleges affiliated to the university, he said.
