KCR set to counter Oppn attack, list achievements

Hyderabad: All eyes are on the strategy of the TRS in the Legislative Council meeting convened on September 27. Although legislature sources said the House was convened to fulfill the constitutional requirement of no more than six months gap between the sessions, chances of the TRS government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao using the floor of the House to highlight the achievements of his government and the flagship schemes introduced during the last four years cannot be ruled out. The last sitting of the Council was held during the budget session of both Houses of the legislature in March.

Both the Council and Assembly were adjourned sine die on March 29 but the latter was subsequently dissolved on September 6. A TRS MLC said that they have not yet thought of number of days the Council would meet and also about the issues to be discussed. A clear picture would emerge after the BAC meeting on that day, he said.

With election fever gripping the state after the Assembly was dissolved by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao nine months before the scheduled five-year term, Opposition parties have lashed out against the TRS government accusing it of failing to fulfill the promises made in election manifesto. They are making a mention of the schemes like double-bed room housing for poor, KG to PG scheme, 3-acre land to Dalits, etc.

The Congress, TDP, TJS, CPI and even the BJP have left no stone unturned to criticize KCR. While BJP national president Amit Shah faulted early election decision of the TRS government, AICC leader Ghulam Nabi Azad made a sensational statement that KCR was not at all involved in the Telangana formation process by the UPA government.

In the backdrop of all these developments, the TRS MLC felt that the upcoming Legislative Council meeting would present a good opportunity for KCR to refresh public memory in the House by touching different subjects, policy decisions and initiatives whose fruits reached people of the state.

"For the next two months, KCR would be speaking in public meetings organised by the party. However, the Council meet would present an opportunity to KCR to convey his message to the people directly. As the leader of the House, he can give issue by issue counters to the allegations of the Opposition," the legislator said.
