Update: 2018-10-04 05:30 IST

Hyderabad: The Reddy-dominated erstwhile Nalgonda district is throwing a big challenge to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) as it intends to repeat its 2014 performance by bagging six out of the 12 seats. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is slated to address a public meeting in Nalgonda, a Congress bastion for long. Traditionally, the Congress bags majority of the 12 seats in the district since decades.

Congress party leaders, including N Uttam Kumar Reddy and K Jana Reddy, have been winning successive elections from their respective constituencies. The TRS has managed to win six seats while riding on the crest of the Telangana wave in 2014. The pink party is now banking on the popular schemes of the government to win as many seats as possible from the district.

As promised, the Chief Minister gave tickets to the sitting MLAs and the candidates have started their campaign at the ground level. The TRS leaders feel that the schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, pensions, Kalyana Lakshmi and others would help them in winning more seats this time compared to 2014. The party’s main worry has been the rebel trouble in some of the constituencies where the TRS has remarkable presence. Unhappy with the candidates announced, the second rung leaders are demanding their replacement.

Some of the leaders are even carrying out a parallel campaign, competing with the official candidates. The party leadership has so far not been able to come to grips with dissidence problem, except in pacifying M C Koti Reddy, who was campaigning in the Nagarjunasagar constituency. He grudgingly pledged his support to party candidate N Narasimhaiah. Meanwhile, the party on Wednesday suspended Munugodu TRS leader V Venkateshwar Rao for anti-party activities.

The TRS leaders are busy making arrangements for the meeting of the Chief Minister's ‘Praja Ashirvada Sabha’ in Nalgonda on Thursday. The meeting would be in an area of 40 acres with parking facilities. There would be drinking water, buttermilk for the people coming to the meeting. TRS MLC K Prabhakar said people of Nalgonda had made it clear in 2014 elections that they are with Telangana and the TRS.
