Hyderabad: The University Grants Commission (UGC) directed the universities offering different courses through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) to complete their admission process for the current academic year by October 20.

According to the UGC communiqué, the decision to this effect had been taken at a meeting of the UGC on September 27, deciding to extend the last date of admissions in the recognised ODL programmes being offered by the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in the country for the academic year 2018-19.

The communiqué said that no further admissions should be made after October 20. Further, the revised programme recognition status, based on the decision of the Commission on the representations along with the documentary evidence received from the HEIs are made available on the Commission’s website, it said.

The HEIs are asked to start the admission process in the programmes recognised as per the revised programme recognition status made available on the UGC website. Besides, the Commission will issue a letter detailing programme wise recognition status to the HEIs at the earliest.

In case any programmes are not recognised or still found deficient as per the revised recognition status under ‘B’ and ‘D’, the Commission said that the HEIs may submit an appeal to it along with the prescribed fee, within 30 days from the date of the UGC letter, in accordance with the UGC ODL Regulations, 2017, along with the documentary evidence for the consideration for the recognition in the second stage. Thereafter, if the programmes are still remaining deficient, the HEIs can make an appeal to the commission, it added.
