50 yrs on, toy train regales zoo visitors

Bahadurpura: The 50th anniversary of toy train was celebrated as part of the 55th Zoo Day celebrations at Nehru Zoological Park. Executive Director, BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited), G Uday Kumar flagged off the train, which remains an important attraction for the visitors, on Saturday. 

Various programmes were held on the occasion of 55th Zoo Day celebrations at the zoo. Besides celebrations of the toy train by the zoo authorities, the newly-born baby of squirrel monkey along with the parents, were released into the enclosure for the public display by P Raghuveer, the PCCF (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests), and in-charge Head of Forest Force. 

Later, the birthday of female elephant ‘Rani’ was celebrated at the elephant enclosure wherein ‘Rani’ was made to cut a cake in the presence of officers, zoo staff and visitors. She was gifted to the zoo by the then Nizam of Hyderabad. A newly-born Hyena pup has been released into the enclosure for the public display by the animal keepers in the presence of Raghuveer, Munindra, PCCF (Admin), Shobha, additional PCCF, Sidhanand Kukrety, director zoo park and N Kshitija, curator, Nehru Zoological Park 

To mark the occasion a memorable, several sports were organized for the zoo staff and the school children during the week long ‘vanya prani saptah’ celebrations. The prizes were distributed by the chief guest P Raghuveer, Munindra, Shobha, Sidhanand Kukrety.  K V S Babu gallantry award was given for the best employees of the zoo by P Raghuveer. K Mohan, Park Supervisor, M  Balraj, Animal Keeper, Laxman Naik, Garden Supervisor, K Ramulu, Head Mali, were bestowed with gallantry awards.
