Ryots lose out on green gram MSP

Update: 2018-10-08 05:30 IST

Narayankhed:  A large number of farmers queued up at green gram purchase centre organised at Agriculture market on the outskirts of Jukar village in Narayankhed mandal for permission letters on Saturday. This year green gram was cultivated on a large-scale by the farmers in the constituency. In view of this, the State government organised purchase centres and declared that it would buy green gram from farmers at Rs 6,975 per quintal, which is Rs 2,000 more than what Karnataka and Maharashtra states are offering.

Exploiting the situation, brokers have been buying green gram in neighbouring states and selling here at government purchase centres in connivance with market yard staff, local farmers alleged. As a result, the local farmers are not able to sell their produce at the centres. Authorities concerned should respond to the alarming situation and take necessary steps, local farmers demanded.
