HMDA to add 430 metres to the trail at Necklace Road

Necklace Road: The urban forestry wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is all set to add another 430 meters to the ‘Bathukamma’ trail at Necklace Road.

HMDA developed the trails at a cost of around Rs 50 lakh. “A patch of land opposite to PV Ghat would be taken for the development of the trail.

Flowery plants would adorn the stretch. A number of roadside plants too would be added,” said AD Someshwar, an Assistant Director of Buddha Purnima Project.

The land extends till the railway track. Officials say that this would not only help protect the land from misuse, but also make the place beautiful.

It may be noted that the Bathukamma Trail that was developed a few years ago from Necklace Road Railway Station to Jal Vihar attracts butterflies.

Urvashi, who comes to walk on the trail in the mornings, said, “There are several flowery plants that attract butterflies, and it is a pleasant sight to watch.”

Apart from these seasonal flowers, 15 to 20 varieties of flowers like roses, ixora, lilies, bougainvillea, begonia, dahlia, heliconia, hibiscus and lantana were also planted.

Over 10 varieties of flowers like Senna, Ipomoea, Katla, Teku, hibiscus, stick bush, jasmine, apart from seasonal flowers like Gunuka (celosia), Tangedu, Banti (marigold), Chamanti (chrysanthemum) can also be seen along the stretch.
