Hyderabad: The formation of an alliance to serve as an alternative to the BJP-led NDA at the Centre is all set to take place in the back-drop of elections to Telangana Assembly and four north Indian states. In all probability, AICC president Rahul Gandhi and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu are likely to address a mammoth public meeting in Hyderabad to be organised as part of Congress and TDP poll campaign where they would announce the formation of the alliance.

“The chances of Congress-led Front taking birth in Hyderabad are plenty and the TDP will be the first partner,” a senior TDP leader said. Considering the elections in five states as semi-finals to the 2019 general elections, the Congress and the TDP high command have already gone into a huddle in Delhi recently on the formation of the alliance.

The two parties’ leaders discussed in detail the possibility of its launch in the election-bound Telangana state.
Top sources in the two parties told The Hans India that Congress high command is closely watching the political developments in the Telangana state where TRS is going alone while the Opposition parties barring BJP have formed Mahakutami in the battle for Telangana.

The Telugu Desam supremo has already hinted at the recently held meeting with his party MPs in Amaravati that he wants to make a foray into national politics by creating a viable and effective alternative to BJP at national level before the 2019 general elections.

The Congress high command has already extended an olive branch to TDP and entered into a poll pact in Telangana. In principle, the parties also resolved to fight jointly against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at national level by raising Rafale deal and people’s issues. The TDP leaders are already holding series of talks with other regional party leaders mainly Trinamul Congress (TMC) leader Mamatha Banerjee, DMK leader Stalin, Biju Janata Dal leader Naveen Patnaik to bring them under one umbrella to fight the NDA. Congress is already a partner in JD (Secular) government in Karnataka.
