Ghatkesar:  Almost a week after the brutal poisoning of over 50 dogs near the Infosys campus near Samskruthy Township, an FIR has been registered under Sections 154 and 157 of CrPC. In spite of several attempts by locals to hush up the incident, the persistent Compassionate Society for Animals (CAS) prevailed upon the authorities resulting in an FIR and the police surveyed the area and collected samples.

NS Pravalika, the chairperson and founder of Compassionate Society for Animals (CAS) blamed the government for the heinous crime perpetrated on the canines. She said, “The government failed to sterilize the dogs to control their population and no proper vaccination was administered to them to protect them from rabies.” Pravalika had received a complaint on October 6 about the killing of dogs at Samskruthy Township.

It is alleged that the president and secretary were behind the killings of the dogs. “It is hard to concur that the Township housing 250 CCTV cameras inaugurated by the Rachkonda Commissioner couldn’t record the incident on any of the 250 CCTVs installed,” she said, adding most of the CCTVs failed at the same time before the incident occurred.”

Residents said that dog killers from Kakinada and Ongole were hired and the dogs were injected poison under the supervision of night security personnel. Three persons were found collecting the carcasses. When Pravalika went to the township to investigate the crime, she found people were hesitant to speak. The carcasses of dogs were burnt in a secluded forest area behind the township. The members and volunteers of CAS found the burnt remains of dogs under the cover of grass and branches. Many residents saw sanitary staff who came on garbage collecting vans in the area in wee hours raising several questions and discussing in hush hush manner.

Pravalika sent a letter to the inspector under Rachkonda Commisionerate requesting them to take immediate action against all the suspects she has mentioned in the FIR and anxiously awaits their response. Inspector P Raghuveer Reddy of Rachkonda police station at Ghatkesar filed an FIR under section 154 and 157 CrPC, stating the same.
