Factory pollution chokes Nizampet

Nizampet: Around one-lakh households here have been facing health issues because of the air pollution caused by the emission of hazardous smoke by the nearby factories.The village consists of mostly poor farmers, as it comes under Vidhan Sabha Constituency, Medchal District. “Since a few months, we are not able to breathe fresh air because of air pollution in our village, said the villagers of Nizampet.

The continuous emission of smoke from the nearby factories leads to vomits, fever, watering eyes and cough, they said. One can see such health issues in the entire village. A slew of complaints have been registered at Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB). The officers came, checked the pollution levels and left, but the problem still remains, they added.

Jagdeesh Babu, a software engineer who is a long-time resident of Nizampet village, said that, “Entire village is suffering because of the constant foul smell coming from the factories of Bolarum and Bachupally, which are about four Kilometres away from Nizampet village. The areas around the village are also affected by the pollution.”

Air pollution from these factories is affecting health of the farmers, nearly 10 farmers of Nizampet village is suffering from severe cough. Residents also tweeted and lodged complaints to authorities, yet no one took any action to resolve the issue. The foul smell becomes so strong sometimes that the villagers are forced to shut their doors and windows.
