Gandhi Hospital staff on stir for salaries
Secunderabad: As many as 450 nurses of Gandhi Hospital went on a strike on Monday in the hospital premises demanding payment of their salaries. The nursing staff began their protests soon after submitting a representation to the hospital superintendent. Nearly 300 staff members, including outsourcing workers, boycotted their duties, except for the emergency services. The salaries were not paid to the hospital workers in the last three months.
Nursing staff, Telangana medical contract employees and worker unions affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Secunderabad, gave many representations to the authorities. “The management promised that the salaries will be paid by Monday evening. If not, our strike will continue till Tuesday. Even emergency services will be boycotted,” said M Narsimha, union president and general secretary to AITUC. He said that they were working their best despite the lack of salaries. Workers also shouted slogans asking management to pay their salaries. Union leaders Meghamala, Praamila, Lakshmi, Sudha, Sundaramma and others participated in the protest.
