Palamuru cheers heavy rains
Mahbubnagar: The heavy downpour during the past two days has cooled the weather in Mahbubnagar district and recharged the drying bore wells bringing a great relief to the residents.
However, on the flip side, the sudden rains have caused waterlogging and chocking of drains and everywhere the water is seen gushing out of manholes causing stink causing lot of traffic inconvenience to the pedestrians and motorists.
“Though late, but the rains during the past two days brought in great relief to the people. On one hand it cooled the hot and dry weather, while on the other it helped recharged the drying bore wells. Because already we were facing water shortage with all our bores stopped pouring water,” said Laxmi Devi of vijayanagar Colony, in Mahbubnagar.
The farmers have also expressed happiness over the downpour of rains. Particularly, as they have already ended harvesting jowar, maize and cotton crops, these rains will be definitely a wellcome to the standing paddy crops.
“I had sown 1.5 acres of paddy crop. With no water in the lakes and ponds, our bores had gone dried up and I had almost lost hope of a good yield this time. But thanks to recent rains, it has regained my hope of yielding better paddy crop,” expressed happiness, Ramchander Nayak of Shankarayapally village in Jadcherla.
Though the situation in the villages is quite good, the condition of urban areas during the heavy rains has created havoc. With already chocked drains everywhere in Jadcherla and elsewhere, the rain water overflowed across the by-lanes and came onto roads and entered into houses. With drains and nalas unmaintained properly the people in urban areas are in tense conditions and they fear it may lead to eruption of diseases.
“The municipality authorities do not clear the drains regularly and with little rains we are witnessing the drains and main holes are choked and dirty water is entering our houses and flowing on the roads giving tough time to the residents and commuters,” said Janga Reddy of Housing Board colony, Mahabubnagar. Overall the recent downpour has brought in mixed responses from the people of Mahbubnagar.
