Private traders offer better price for cotton
Adilabad: Adilabad District Collector Divya Devrajan formally inaugurated cotton purchasing centre on Wednesday. The produce was traded at 5,800 per quintal. But the farmers said if additional moisture content was found, traders paid lower price.
Though the Cotton Corporation of India has opened its purchasing centre to ensure that the farmers secure minimum support price, the farmer were not satisfied because of lower price being offered if the cotton has more 8 per cent moisture content.
The conditions stipulated that for each percentage point of moisture content above 8, one per cent of the MSP will be subtracted. The private traders, however, relaxed it and purchased cotton with moisture content up to 12 per cent. The private traders too deduct one per cent from MSP if the moisture content is above 12 per cent.
