Rahul steals thunder with tirade against KCR, Modi
Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee President Rahul Gandhi received a good response from the people during his address at historic Charminar as part of Rajiv Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day programme on Saturday. His criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the party leaders claimed, had evoked a huge response from the people.
The roads around the Charminar were reverberated with the slogans of Rahul Gandhi Zindabad and Jai Congress. The people responded to the queries posed by Rahul Gandhi during his speech. Several leaders of the Congress arrived at the venue in a rally. The AICC President arrived in the evening at Charminar to participate in the Rajiv Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day programme. Around 28 years ago former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi launched the Sadbhavana Yatra from Charminar in 1990.
The Sadbhavana Committee is celebrating the programme every year and conferring the award on stalwarts. This year former Governor K Rosaiah was given the award.
Rahul Gandhi, who arrived in Hyderabad after addressing election meetings at Bhainsa in Adilabad district and at Kamaeddy in the afternoon, presented the award. He hoisted the Congress flag on the occasion.
He tried to explain the sectarian politics being practiced by the BJP led government at the Centre. He said that now a fight was going on between those who want to divide the country and those who want to keep it united. He alleged that the people, who were bent upon dividing the country, had been using these politics to help a few rich people. He also criticised the behaviour of the Prime Minister.
“The Prime Minister says that before he assumed office the elephant (India) was sleeping. He means that entire system was sleeping before he assumed the office. This is nothing but sheer arrogance. He wants to show that all has been happening because of him. But I believe that India was not made by one person but by the people of the country,” he said. Rahul Gandhi tried to connect with people of old city, majority of them are small businessmen. The Charminar is surrounded by hundreds of shops that give livelihood to thousands of Muslims.
He told them that the Prime Minister’s decision on demonetisation hit the small businessmen very hard. Apart from this the ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ – Good and Services Tax, has also led to lot of misery to the small businessmen.
Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on the MIM and attacked it with scathing remarks. He questioned the party for supporting the BJP-led government by backing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
The AICC president told the voters of the old city that a vote to TRS was a vote to the BJP. If the people wanted to drive away the BJP from the Centre, they should vote for the Congress. He said the old city was deprived of Metro Rail Services due to the misrule of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He said with the money spent for the construction of residence of the Chief Minister, Metro Rail could have been built in old city. The Metro Rail would have helped the small businessmen here to do good business.
