GHMC to oversee electoral drive
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would be overseeing Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), a multi-intervention programme that reaches out through different modes and media to educate citizens, electors and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and participation.
The Election Commission of India in 2010 launched a national programme titled Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP). The aim of SVEEP is to increase electoral participation through voter registration and turnout, increase qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting and continuous electoral and democracy education.
Close to 50,000 posters at schools and colleges and Kantivelugu centres would be put up, and ad-boards erected at strategic locations at Metro Rail. Flash mobs and campaigns in malls are also planned. Prachara Rathams will cover all the 15 assembly constituencies of Hyderabad districts Events such as bike rallies, human chains, delivery of messages by prominent people in the society/celebrities, have been arranged.
Print and electronic media has been engaged for creating awareness among general public. 1.5 lakh stickers pasted across the city in important places like Banks, schools, colleges Hospitals & other public important places. A toll-free call centre (1800-599-2999) has been set up by the GHMC. On an average, over 1,500 calls are being attended to daily.
