GHMC to unveil app for differently abled voters today
Hyderabad: In a bid to make the ensuing elections in Telangana accessible and inclusive, the Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat will launch VAADA (Voter Accessibility App for the differently abled), an application developed by GHMC, on Tuesday.
VAADA makes the voting process for the differently-abled convenient and increases the accessibility factor. Built as an app, it has text, voice and GIS (Geographic Information System) interface. The voice interface has been specially included keeping in mind the challenges of the differently-abled. The GIS interface enables in locating users.
Downloadable from the Google play store, VAADA, opens with a screen that prompts the users for their details like mobile number, type of disability and assistance required. These details can be filled in the text form. The app is also voice-enabled, and the feature will allow the users to record their details without any need for typing. Once these details are entered, the location details are also captured using the latitude and longitude coordinates.
The location details being unique will avoid all confusion and duplication allowing easy identification of the location. All the information including the location details are stored on a server accessible to GHMC staff. GIS maps, generated by GHMC-GIS cell, showing the locations of all the 3,000 plus polling booths in 15 constituencies have been used and linked to the app. The app will be a boon to over 20,000 differently-abled voters, who now can take part in the electoral process with ease.
