Safety measures now much better at Osmania General Hospital
Hyderabad: Several floor spaces in the outpatient block that wereflaked off and uneven and caused hardships to patients, particularly those in wheel chairs and stretchers, have now been retiled to give smoother access to various critical departments in the Out PatientDepartment (OPD) block.
Osmania General Hospital (OGH), in collaboration with Helping Hand Foundation (HHF), a city-based healthcare NGO, has taken up the works of retiling.
It may be recalled that painting works and lighting and seating capacity for patients and attenders was enhanced in the OPD block under the same arrangement. B Nagender, superintendent atOGH said, “A few areas to the left and right side of emergency department where the flooring had come out and the cementing done had worn out causing hardships to the mobility of patients, but now these have been fixed and the patient’s safety and mobility has been improved significantly.”
Every day, about 300 to 400 patients and equal number of attendeeswalk from casualty to all critical departments like AMC (Acute medical Care) and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) for Neuro Cases, X-rays, Ultra Sounds and CT Scans. The path will be a much smoother, he said. Earlier, due to uneven flooring the paramedical staff ferrying patient had to be very cautious in handling patients at these uneven points, he added. Patients with disability are breathing a sigh of relief after the carpet had been laid, as they were the ones impacted the most due to their total dependency on wheel chairs and stretchers, Nagender said.
HHF is working closely with OGH in improving facilities across the hospital. “Our plan is to take one step at a time to improve patient’s safety, experience and access in the hospital. We are glad that with the active participation from OGH administration, we are able to make positive impact on patients,” said Mujtaba Hasan Askari of HHF.
