TD senior leaders set sights on Assembly seats in GHMC limits
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leaders are considering the assembly segments in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits as safe bets to contest elections this time. Many senior leaders are vying to grab the party ticket from the segments where Seemandhra voters are high.
Senior TDP leader E Peddi Reddy already got a nod from the party high command to contest as Mahakutami candidate from Kukatpally assembly constituency. Hailing from old Karimnagar district, Reddy initially planned to fight from his native Husnabad assembly segment. As part of the alliance, the Congress is seeking the seat to field its candidate from the constituency.
Leaders said that Peddi Reddy informed his proposal to contest from Kukatpally to TDP party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the recently held meeting. Naidu accepted the plea and directed the State party unit to take a final decision on this matter at the earliest.
Another senior leader R Chandrashekhar Reddy is planning to fight from one of the 24 assembly segments, particularly the TDP stronghold areas, in Greater Hyderabad. He is vying for a ticket from Devarakadra or Wanaparthy segments in the old Mahbubnagar district. But, Congress senior leader and sitting MLA G Chinna Reddy is ready to win again from Wanaparthy and TDP leader Dayakar Reddy is insisting ticket from Devarakadra.
Leaders said that party State unit president L Ramana is also in the race to contest elections from any of the segments in the Hyderabad limits. Ramana already announced he will sacrifice Jagtial assembly seat to Mahakutami if the incumbent MLA T Jeevan Reddy is serious to fight this time also. TDP Rajya Sabha MP T Devendar Goud is also seeking ticket from Medchal segment. Goud conducted surveys on his winning prospects.
If his son Veerendar Goud fights from Uppal, the chances of getting ticket is grim for the senior leader.
Party leaders said that the allotment of seats to the TDP in the Mahakutami in Greater Hyderabad limits will depend on the winning prospect of the partners in each constituency. Since the TDP has bright changes of winning the elections, senior leaders threw hat into the ring.
The TDP local leaders and constituency in-charges are already making arrangements to fight the elections in a hope that the party high command will allot the seat to them. At least two-three local leaders are in the race for tickets in all seemandhra voters dominated segments.
A clarity on the allotment of tickets to the leaders will come only after the finalisation of the seats between the TDP and the Congress in the grand alliance, a senior leader said.
