Cops on high alert in Agency area

Bhupalpally: North Zone Inspector General Y Nagi Reddy said that the police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure incident-free election in mandals that are abutting Chhattisgarh border. Reviewing the election preparedness with the local police here on Wednesday, he said there are 650 polling stations in 419 locations across Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district and of which 173 polling booths are sensitive.

However, there is a possibility of Maoist threat, the police have taken measures to ensure a hassle-free polling in these polling booths, he said. It may be noted here that Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli district, which has Mulug and Bhupalpally constituencies also has parts of Manthani and Bhadrachalam segments. Majority of villages in these mandals are Maoist-infested.

“The police have chalked out a multi-pronged security in Maoist-infested villages. We have intensified combing operations, vehicle checks and cordon and search in these areas. The police have bound over 3,707 history, suspect sheeters and trouble mongers,” Reddy said, cautioning them not to create any kind of troubles to the people during the elections.

Jayashankar Bhupalapalli District Collector Vasam Venkateshwaralu, Superintendent of Police R Bhaskaran, OSD Suresh Kumar and AR Additional SP Sayed Basha were among others present.
